Having the opportunity to participate in college courses, service learning opportunities and travel experiences. I find that Averroes is not like the typical high school.
Reem Bilbeisi has a BA degree in Education with teaching credentials in secondary business/technology education from Eastern Michigan University. Reem has previously taught at both the high school and middle school level, and also has experience teaching in public, private and charter schools. She has shown a passion for the youth by leading youth mentor groups and events and counseling many students. Currently Reem has a Masters from the Principal Leadership Institute from UC Berkeley which allows her to be authorized in the following areas of service: superintendent, associate superintendent, deputy superintendent, principal, assistant principal, dean, supervisor, consultant, and school coordinator.
Co-founder Ateka Ali - Born and raised in Chicago, Ateka Ali completed her BA in International Studies with concentration in Middle Eastern Studies from DePaul University. She earned her MA in secondary Social Sciences and earned M.Ed in Bilingual Bi-cultural studies. Ateka, a Fulbright scholar to Amman, Jordan researched “metacognition” in second-language learners. She has gained a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of second-language acquisition, as well as other related educational theories and practices. She resides in the Bay Area with her husband and two kids.
Coach Faheem Rivers has 12 years of experience coaching basketball including National Junior basketball in Vallejo and freshmen basketball. For 7 years, he was the assistant coach for the Vallejo High School junior Varsity basketball team. He also coached 2 years of varsity summer league for Vallejo high school. Currently he is the basketball coach for both the boys and girls team at Averroes high school. He also leads an independent AAU Summer league program.
The Math and Science lead at Averroes High School. She has 10 years of teaching experience with students from diverse backgrounds. She has worked with students in India and Singapore which has provided her with tremendous insight into the teaching process and creating a curriculum on a more holistic level. She believes in providing students with opportunities to explore and enhance their learning in Math and Science beyond the scope of what is being taught in the classroom. She has attended various training and professional development classes such as CSET Stanford – “Teaching the Mathematical practices: Modeling with Math”, CSET Stanford- “Chemistry experiences and experiments for learning”, CSET Stanford- “Teaching Mathematics for a growing mindset” and CSET Stanford- “Technology applications in Math and Science”.
